Graphist opinion(s): I've mentioned to the author about using APNG instead of GIF, which would make it easy to avoid the limited color palette. I have to say, though, that while I do notice the change in coloring, it's not enough to make me think they are gray ('other countries') — you might need a new monitor, or a vision test? ¦ Reisio (talk) 21:39, 20 December 2009 (UTC) other: This graphic has been cleaned up. Request: I duplicated the <use xlink:href="#Fairfield" stroke="none" fill="red"/> line with all county names (e.g. New_Haven) and changed the fill to gold. Is there a better way? Guy0307 (talk) 07:23, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Graphist opinion:
- xlink:href="#Fairfield" creates a clone of the Fairfield object above the original one. Instead of doing this you can simply change the colour of the original object by going to <path id="Fairfield" d="M -6382... and changing it to <path id="Fairfield" fill="red" d="M -6382.... Alternatively if you want to colour all of the counties go to <g stroke="black" fill="none" and change "none" to red. /129.215.149.96 13:33, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Unusual request: technology development rather than image development.

[edit] Morocco-Ottoman Empire relations
Request: Please somebody fix the Moroccan borders. ... Flad (talk) 13:53, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: Are you sure that the border of Morocco was that border at that time. The border of the current dinasty has changed a lot throughout its history reaching its peak from 1860-1890 being smaller than its current border before hand and then partitioned by colonial powers. so, what I'm getting at here is: was the border like that at that pericular time or only during that dynasty's peak which in it self could have been any time during its existence. Also, I have to make sure the Ottoman Empire's extent was currect to the time. The English Wiki page that uses it says the 6-17 centuries however the actual file does not specify any perticular period. (sorry for being picky!) Maps & Lucy (talk) 00:00, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

- This image is clearly intended for the infobox in the country's main article. I prefer the Europe map version which is uniform across all EU member states' articles (as well as for non-EU European countries). The globe view is less suited due to the relatively small land area of European countries - Ssolbergj (talk) 21:20, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- the image of the Canary Island have the same "European" background. And i don't Azores or Madeira to be the "star" of the picture, but since they are part of the country (are not colonies, are not independent - they are actually part of Portugal) they need to be in the map, in order to get the right map in the article. Request: I'm working on scanning an old Soviet Atlas. Some of the maps are on fold-out pages and are way too big for any scanner I have access to. I've scanned these in pieces, and I think the final answer is for them to be pieced together. A basic example involves the two images above here: a "northern" and a "southern" half. What's the best way to approach "merging" such images back into single maps? Would someone be able to merge them carefully? Should I be scanning them differently? [edit] South Sudan
Request: Literally hundreds of maps relating to the world's newest country, South Sudan. Country maps, maps of neighboring countries, Africa maps, hemisphere maps, Arab league maps, multinational organization maps. The number would I am afraid overwhelm the machinery of this page and some of the issues are still outstanding (status of Abyei Province, membership in Arab League, Commonwealth, UN, etc.) As much as new maps and categories we may need a new tracking/organization procedure. Should I start a subpage for request, organize most used/most needed - or just dump it all here? Rmhermen (talk) 15:43, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- As I mentionned here [2], just for the Arab League (Category:Arab_League) it will be a long job. Let's begin by most used-most needed. Here is what we need in ar wikipedia to be updated.

I noticed there is not a single map on Commons which shows all the US area codes. Could we create one? To get started, I uploaded File:Area codes & time zones US.jpg. But this isn't sufficient because it has time zone data, because it is littered with in-image verbage, and because it's a jpeg.

- "Revenu salarial annuel median (en euros)" -> "Median annual salary revenue (in euros)"
- "21 000", "18 000" etc. should become "21,000", "18,000" etc.

[edit] Map with many inaccuracies for legality of Salvia divinorum by jurisdiction
Request: This map is very incorrect, and desprately needs to be recolored so that the map remains true to the real legal status of the substance. Specifically:
The following states are marked as areas where the substance is banned, however, they are not; they have only introduced legislation and they have not been approved yet. I request that a new color be added to the map to represent jurisdictions where legislation is pending and the outcome is not yet known:
- New York
- New Jersey
- Indiana
- South Carolina
- Texas
- Massachusetts
- Pennsylvania
- Utah
- Alaska
- Maryland (Note that Maryland is not colored as a banned jurisdiction like the previous ones)
Additionally, the following areas either are colored wrong, or are not colored at all, when they should be marked as areas where it is banned:
- Alabama
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Florida
- Illinois
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Minnesota
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
I used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_status_of_Salvia_divinorum for reference. Please note that I may have missed a few places, so please double check. The only places that seem to have problems are individual states in the US.

[edit] Need help with a pixelated map
Request: Please help me smooth out this image. The topper part of the diagram is strongly pixelated. Maybe it could be vectorized with lines or improved in some way. The lines of the states in Venezuela don't necessarily need to be present. Image doesn't have to be perfect. But I need to minimize the difference between the top map and the lower map, cos' right now it looks really mediocre! If you open the file you'll see what I'm talking about. The file is important for the article http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Gran_Sabana_Map.jpg which is pretty complete so far. The lower diagram can be modified too if desired, with less details as well, or can be left the same. Any help would be strongly appreciated, thanks for your time. - It's far too big due to the paths of the original map outside the viewbox still being there. If you can imagine a little window showing the area you're concerned with, but everything outside the window is still there. I did a version in Illustrator (but without the correct Persian text) that came in at 9kb, at 50kb your version needs some work. Also when one zooms in, the paths representing the coastlines is very angular which gives it a raster type appearence. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 12:32, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] World same-sex adoption and gender-identity expression laws need .svg versions
These two maps that show world laws about same-sex adoption and gender-identity changes are out-of-date, not in SVG format, and their color schemes may need to be changed to better reflect other, more up-to-date maps.
Request: Please re-make the top two maps in SVG form. In the new adoption map, make sure that the color scheme is updated to reflect the other adoption maps in the second row (just use gray for any countries where gay adoption is illegal, where homosexuality is illegal, or the situation is unclear). In the new gender-identity change map, make sure that every subdivision of the U.S. except Ohio, Tennessee, and Idaho are added, and that Iran is added (see this). - Doesn't look like it requires much in the way of technical knowledge. Just provide the appropriate translations for each text tag -- which is something you'll probably need to do anyway to get this request done, as otherwise you'll have to wait for someone proficient in Spanish willing to take the time to research proper translations. I re-uploaded the file (plain SVG version). However the result is the same. I checked the http last-modified time of the png files.
- My upload time: 07:27 GMT, 20 March
- 120px: 10:30:12 GMT, 07 March
- 200px: 21:05:56 GMT, 15 March
- 500px: 07:33:40 GMT, 20 March
- 1000px: 07:39:53 GMT, 20 March
- 2000px: 07:40:51 GMT, 20 March
Clearly 120px and 200px are not updated to the new file. This seems to be some Squid cache management problem. ―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 07:57, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Rework a location map
Request: There is no explanation of the significance of the two shaded areas in the first map which appears to be a copy of the second map shown. The Huaorani territory section could be removed so that is a map solely of the National Park and a separate map could be made to incorporated that area. Also, the inset showing the Galapagos Islands is not needed in this context. Country names should also be used on the map. Alan Liefting (talk) 21:20, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

- Leicester, Worcester and Gloucester are all spelt wrong, the outline of the UK is somewhat, errr, inexact and some of the labels need wrapping. I suggest that ShareMap may not be the best way of going about this. Perhaps you would end up with a better result by using one of the UK locator SVG maps here at Commons, eg Category:SVG locator maps of ceremonial counties in England (dark sea location map scheme), then labelling and shading that. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 18:20, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit] w:Greater Sacramento Area
Request: I'm trying to make an image for w:Sacramento metropolitan area. The area in yellow on the California map has nearly every county but there's one in Nevada as well; w:Douglas County, Nevada. In the cluster of smaller counties on the middle left of Nevada, it is the bottom left one (hopefully that makes sense) and it should be labeled "Douglas" in the same font that's used on the California map. I think leaving the Sacramento Area yellow/golden would be fine, but if we could make the rest of the counties' labels go away and then cut out anything above Butte, below San Joaquin, and anything to the right (east) of a couple counties from Douglas that would be amazing (to limit scope to this area but give a small amount of context). If you have a better idea to try to do this that would look better, I'm open to suggestions. I tried doing this on Inkscape today but was very unsuccessful. :( --Killiondude (talk) 01:25, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
