[edit] Þýðingar
Ég hef verið að þýða sumt. MediaWiki:Licenses/isownwork hefur verið ansi flókið. Hvað er íslenska orðið yfir copyleft? Samanburð er að finna á MediaWiki:Licenses/ownwork. Svo er það Commons:Upload/is/fromflickr og Commons:Upload/is/fromwikimedia, ég er búinn að hálfvernda þær, svo að allir innskráðir notendur ættu að geta breytt henni. --Steinninn 22:47, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Election Notice - Please translate
The 2008 Board election committee announces the 2008 election process. Wikimedians will have the opportunity to elect one candidate from the Wikimedia community to serve as a representative on the Board of Trustees. The successful candidate will serve a one-year term, ending in July 2009.
Candidates may nominate themselves for election between May 8 and May 22, and the voting will occur between 1 June and 21 June. For more information on the voting and candidate requirements, see <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008>.
The voting system to be used in this election has not yet been confirmed, however voting will be by secret ballot, and confidentiality will be strictly maintained.
Votes will again be cast and counted on a server owned by an independent, neutral third party, Software in the Public Interest (SPI). SPI will hold cryptographic keys and be responsible for tallying the votes and providing final vote counts to the Election Committee. SPI provided excellent help during the 2007 elections.
Further information can be found at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008/en>. Questions may be directed to the Election Committee at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Board_elections/2008/en>. If you are interested in translating official election pages into your own language, please see <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008/Translation>.

[edit] Translations
I have recently fixed some missing user interface texts for the Icelandic interface. However, I don't speak Icelandic at all. Some were easy ("Village pump"→"Potturinn", for example :-), others not. I set up the following texts:
- MediaWiki:Participate/is: Taka þátt — sidebar subtitle
- MediaWiki:Latestfiles/is: Nýlegar skrár — sidebar link text
- MediaWiki:Randomimage/is: Handahófvalin skrá — sidebar link text
- MediaWiki:Welcome/is: Velkomin — sidebar link text
- MediaWiki:Welcome-url/is: Commons:Velkomin — the page the "Velkomin" link in the sidebar goes to.
- MediaWiki:Village pump/is: Potturinn — sidebar link text
- MediaWiki:Village pump-url/is: Commons:Potturinn — the page the "Potturinn" link in the sidebar goes to.
- MediaWiki:Contact/is: Hafa samband — sidebar link text
- MediaWiki:Contact-url/is: Commons:Contact us — that is the page the "Hafa samband" link in the sidebar goes to; we don't have an Icelandic contact page yet.
Some of these texts were arrived at by googling, comparing English/Icelandic texts found on websites, or looking at the Icelandic Wikipedia. I don't think any of them are completely wrong, but there may be grammatical and other errors. Could a native speaker please correct these (or indicate the corrections here, as the pages are protected). Once corrected, I'll also copy the texts over to BetaWiki.
Furthermore, it'd be great if someone could translate all the labels, hints, error messages, and help texts of the extended upload form. Since is-WP seems to direct most uploads to the Commons, I think that really should be done. (Even though I suspect most Icelandic users use the English interface here at the commons. Let's get it right anyway.)
Thanks. Lupo 10:33, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Posted a pointer to here at is:Wikipedia:Potturinn. Lupo 10:55, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
-
- Taka Þátt > Taka þátt (it's easy to get confused but 'Þ' is the capital version and 'þ' is the miniscule)
- Nýlegra skráa > Nýlegar skrár (you had the genitive rather than the nonimative)
- Thank you for doing this! I didn't even know we had an Icelandic interface. Haukurth (talk) 11:25, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Done these two. BTW, we'd also should have an Icelandic translation of MediaWiki:Uploadtext at MediaWiki:Uploadtext/is... Lupo 11:46, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'll have to take back my BetaWiki-offer, though. It appears that MediaWiki:Participate/is, MediaWiki:Latestfiles/is, and MediaWiki:Randomimage/is are specific to the Commons. And MediaWiki:Contact/is exists at BetaWiki, but somehow we didn't have it?? Strange... Lupo 12:31, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Licensing update progress notice
The licensing update proposal to dual license all Wikimedia Foundation wikis under both the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) and the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA) is moving into its final phase. This proposal put forward by the Foundation and made possible by recent changes in the GFDL is contingent on community approval. In a few days a site notice for all editors will announce the start of vote on this proposal that is expected to last three weeks. In the mean time we would invite you to visit the update proposal and its associated FAQ if you want to learn more. We would also appreciate your help finishing the translation effort for the core documents associated with this process.

[edit] Proposal to change our voting policy
Hello,
A while ago I made a proposal to change our policy about the 4 votes requirement during a rfa, the last week(s) there has been a discussion on the talkpage and now I believe its time to go to the village pump.
Please raise any comments, objections or questions on the talkpage and I hope to implent it without any big objections in 2 weeks or so.
The proposal can be found here:

[edit] Volunteers still needed
Hi all,
Although we soon will remove the centralnotice that is up, the Wikimedia Foundation is still looking for volunteers to serve as subject area experts or to sit on task forces that will study particular areas and make recommendations to the Foundation about its strategic plan. You may apply to serve on a task force or register your name as an expert in a specific area at http://volunteer.wikimedia.org.
The Foundation's strategy project is a year-long collaborative process which is hosted on the strategy wiki, at http://strategy.wikimedia.org. Your input is welcome (and greatly desired) there. When the task forces begin to meet, they will do their work transparently and on that wiki, and any member of the community may join fully in their work. This process is specifically designed to involve as many community members as possible.
Any questions can be addressed to me either on my talk page here or on the strategy wiki or by email to philippe at wikimedia.org.
I hope you'll consider joining us!
Philippe (talk) 03:22, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Call for image filter referendum
The Wikimedia Foundation, at the direction of the Board of Trustees, will be holding a vote to determine whether members of the community support the creation and usage of an opt-in personal image filter, which would allow readers to voluntarily screen particular types of images strictly for their own account.
Further details and educational materials will be available shortly. The referendum is scheduled for 12-27 August, 2011, and will be conducted on servers hosted by a neutral third party. Referendum details, officials, voting requirements, and supporting materials will be posted at Meta:Image filter referendum shortly.
Sorry for delivering you a message in English. Please help translate the pages on the referendum on Meta and join the translators mailing list.

[edit] Terms of Use update
I apologize that you are receiving this message in English. Please help translate it.
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is discussing changes to its Terms of Use. The discussion can be found at Talk:Terms of use. Everyone is invited to join in. Because the new version of Terms of use is not in final form, we are not able to present official translations of it. Volunteers are welcome to translate it, as German volunteers have done at m:Terms of use/de, but we ask that you note at the top that the translation is unofficial and may become outdated as the English version is changed. The translation request can be found at m:Translation requests/WMF/Terms of Use 2 -- Maggie Dennis, Community Liaison 00:35, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta
Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.
The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:
- Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
- New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
- The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
- Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
- Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
- Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
- The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
- More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
- Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
- Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
- Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.
Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.
Note that this cluster does have SUL but it is not integrated with SUL in production, so you'll need to create another account. You should avoid using the same password as you use here. — Global message delivery 00:01, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit] MediaWiki 1.19
(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.) The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to upgrade MediaWiki (the software powering this wiki) to its latest version this month. You can help to test it before it is enabled, to avoid disruption and breakage. More information is available in the full announcement. Thank you for your understanding.
