Template:PD-signature

This signature is believed to be ineligible for copyright and therefore in the public domain because it falls below the required level of originality for copyright protection both in the United States and in the source country (if different). In this case, the source country (e.g. the country of nationality of the signatory) is believed to be (country to be given as parameter). Note that this tag cannot be used on all signatures, as not all signatures are copyright-free. See Commons:When to use the PD-signature tag for an explanation of when the tag may be used.

Parameter

The template takes one mandatory parameter, which is the name of the source country (the country of first publication, if known, or as a fallback the individual's country of nationality) so that a judgement can be made as the minimum level of originality required under local law. If the parameter is omitted, or if the signature is arguably complex/creative enough to attract copyright, then the image cannot be assumed free and must be deleted under the precautionary principle.
