Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

[edit] Hi
I see you are working on some UK cats (which always need all the help they can get!). You may find my preferences -> gadgets -> Hot Cat a useful tool in that context (if you use such things). Regards --Herby talk thyme 08:02, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Licenses etc
Actually I'm no expert - I upload only stuff I've taken myself. However - looking at it must have the "author" as a parameter on the template & that is missing from the ones you have done.
Short on time at present but take a look at the pages (& any related stuff) and you may well work it out. Nudge me again if I can help but I'm not around much at present sadly. Regards --Herby talk thyme 16:44, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Hogweard!
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
-
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
-
-
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

[edit] 5th century Europe map
Hi, Hogweard. Sorry for not responding sooner to your message. I just uploaded a version of the map without the names layer. It can be found under: 5th Century Europe Blank.jpg. Hopefully it will be of use to you. --Varoon Arya (talk) 10:28, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Image transfer from Wikipedia to Commons
Hello Hogweard!
Thanks a lot for your contributions! If you transfer images from Wikipedia to Commons, please use this tool. This tool retains all relevant information with correct sourcing and licencing. And by the way it makes file transfers faster and easier for the uploader.
Thank you for your support! Greetings, High Contrast (talk) 14:20, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Geograph
Re this edit which you have done to several images. You have created a second, completely spurious Geograph tag which puts the image at the wrong position in the category. Please do not do this. — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 20:36, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)To be fair, he only changed Uncategorized-Geograph to Geograph - a legitimate edit now that it was categorized. The image was already tagged incorrectly by User:GeographBot - unless I'm mistaken about how the templating/geograph system works. Magog the Ogre (talk) 09:23, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Mercosur Map Update
Thank you for updating the Mercosur map that is displayed in the English Wikipedia article that describes Mercosur in detail. Wikipedia should reflect the world as it is, not how individuals would like it to be. The Falklands (or the Malvinas, as the Argentinians call them) are currently not part of a Mercosur member.71.55.236.145 09:14, 24 December 2011 (UTC) Oops! [edit] User:Filbot/Report
Hi, at User:Filbot/Report I see a number of files which I believe are yours - eg File:Egilsay Orkney.svg. These files seem to lack a license. I believe they were supposed to be PD-self, but I can't add the tag for you. Without a license, of course, they will need to be deleted... Thanks, Rd232 (talk) 01:18, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Please use CommonsHelper
Please use CommonsHelper rather than transferring images by hand. When transferring images by hand, you've been including the wrong information.[1] Magog the Ogre (talk) 15:23, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. I'll love to use Commonshelper, but it has stopped working; both versions. Maybe it objects to Explorer. Until there is a working version, I will have to keep doing it manually.Hogweard (talk) 19:25, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sure. If you want a quick and dirty replacement, tools:~magog/fileinfo.php. It has a bug that appears in it when transferring over image links, but that's the only issue with it; it works on 19/20 pages, or something like that. Magog the Ogre (talk) 21:55, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
