[edit] Question about derivative works
Hi. Does a convention goer at a comic book convention dressed up as a copyright-protected character like Batman Beyond constitute a derivative work? Thanks? Nightscream (talk) 09:31, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- In my opinion if its a really good costume, such that a picture of the cosplayer could be used to substitute for a picture from the copyright holders official pictures, then I would consider it a derivative work.KTo288 (talk) 23:13, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- So a photo of a cosplayer in a Batman Beyond costume would not be an appropriate addition to the BB article, as in, say, a section on that property's cultural influence? Nightscream (talk) 05:48, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- For me there would be two issues with such an image, one as a Commoner and one as a Wikipedian. I can't say without seeing the image but I have deleted pictures of cosplayers as derivative works, if I as a bit of a fanboy have to scratch my head and can't make out who the player is then I usually let them be. The other is as a wikipedian a derivative work as a copyvio has to be absolutely essential to be included, and not be added just because it would be nice to have a picture or that you have a picture available, and if its a low quality image or one in which the subject is ambiguous it really doesn't belong. To me an image to show cultural impact is not significant enough to add the image.KTo288 (talk) 09:26, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

When you mention not being able to make out who the player is, you mean which character they're supposed to be, right?
Also, you mentioned above that the quality of the costume is a criterion. When you said this, was this also part of being able to ID the character? I ask, because of the two players I snapped, the one of Batman Beyond is an excellent costume, though the other, of Optimus Prime, while highly impressive for its creativity (it involved attaching lots of found metal components to regular clothing), is clearly not a store-bought costume, as the Batman Beyond one appeared to be. Nightscream (talk) 14:09, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- The discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/Images of costumes tagged as copyvios by AnimeFan reflects Commons position on this at the moment. Not exactly in line with my own position, but people in costumes should be okay, here, whether such an image is welcome in the article is another matter. Thanks for bringing this up, as until I thought to look it up I thought the outcome of the DR would be to delete, strange that they would conclude that yes that such images are technically copyvios, but copyvios we can keep.--KTo288 (talk) 19:45, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Help?!
Hey, sorry! I have question!
If i edit not my work and send this work to the commons , it's not may work?
Beacuse if it not my work, then someone must delete this :(:
sorry :( --Muffi (talk) 23:24, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, have a look at the sections above this one, we all make mistakes, live and learn and make good the mistakes we've made. Okay so as I understand it, you took pictures of which you were not the original author, you edited/modified these images in some way and then uploaded them to Commons. In such a case you have created a derivative work and unless the original author gave you permission or the orginal file was licensed in such a way as to allow you to do so such files cannot be kept here, and since you raised it I guess you do not have such permissions. Give me a moment to look through them and I'll sort it out.--KTo288 (talk) 23:46, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Delete vote mistaken
You voted to delete at [[1]] based on the Wikipedia deletion, but that deletion was for reason "F8 - identical image on Commons". So there's no copyright or other reason that was accepted for that deletion. Wnt (talk) 17:35, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
[edit] "No FOP in France"
Bonjour KTo288,
Je viens de supprimer une de tes photos qui représent un bâtiment récent (un édicule Guimard). Il n'y a en effet pas de liberté de panorama en France, et même si c'est bien dommage, Commons se doit de respecter cette interdiction.

[edit] File:Coins in a Shell.001 - Tower of London.JPG
I understand copyright reasons, but I hadn't time to review the picture before the delection xDDDD --37.11.176.130 13:16, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- I did it as a speedy, if you want to do it through a regular deletion review, I can undelete it and put it to the community.--KTo288 (talk) 13:29, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
[edit] DR closure
I have created an AN/U for your wrongful closure of that DR. Fry1989 eh? 19:44, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- It was your perogative to do so. I'll reply to you here, since that thread has been closed, DRs are for the discussion of files with copyright and policy problems, this file had neither, in my opinon the DR was the wrong venue for this dispute.--KTo288 (talk) 07:45, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- DRs are for requesting deletion. For whatever reason. Very heavy-handed to use of admin buttons. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 09:26, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
