Hello, Kippelboy!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I noticed you've uploaded File:BIG 008015309040611.jpg and I thought I should draw your attention to a common error.

Please give uploaded images meaningful names. Otherwise they are difficult to track and it is hard to tell what the image is about without actually looking at it. I suggest you rename your image with an intuitive name that describes the image itself. Thanks, and happy editing!

Thanks for uploading File:BIG 637202912040411.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading not own work.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the OTRS-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:BIG 637202912040411.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

First a source would be good, the file description claims "own work", but correctly it is not "own work" but taken from some page at gencat.cat. This real source is however missing. --Martin H. (talk) 11:01, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Martin, I just included the original source. You're right. I think the permission is ok, should i erase the no permission advice? --Kippelboy (talk) 18:03, 22 April 2011 (UTC) comment from my talkpage copied back --Martin H. (talk) 20:49, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

The source does not help much, its a deeplink to the file, prefered is a link to the page with this photo and with a terms of use or a copyright/CC notice. See Template:Bsr. Do you have a weblink to a verifiable source? --Martin H. (talk) 20:49, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
I just changed the source to the main gallery. Can you please check if this is ok? --Kippelboy (talk) 06:53, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, somehow I thought you were a German speaker. The reason for my question is: this is a modern work of art and likely still copyrighted. As Spain has a freedom-of-panorama exemption[1] for works permanently installed in the public, we have to be sure that this "pyramid" is not a temporary exhibition, but permanent installation. --Túrelio (talk) 08:29, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] rotation of File:Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia- interiors-3.JPG

Hallo Kippelboy, your rotation request of File:Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia- interiors-3.JPG was "180°" which is wrong. The image is already correct as you can see. If you want to get rid of the EXIF-based rotation the use 0° here. I have done so for you. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:12, 26 December 2011 (UTC) Similar at File:Altés - església-1.JPG. --Saibo (Δ) 14:15, 26 December 2011 (UTC) And: File:Wikipedia workshop for elder people at Terrassa- november 2011 (2).JPG, File:Eleccions 20N2011.JPG, File:Wikipedia workshop for elder people at Terrassa- november 2011 (10).JPG. --Saibo (Δ) 14:21, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Saibo, thanks for your comments! I just upload'em from a tiny screen and, as I can see, I thought some of them needed to be rotated. Thanks again for your time ;)--Kippelboy (talk) 14:25, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi again, you're welcome. The images my indeed show up mis-oriented in some (older) programs. Maybe you thought they need rotation therefore? If possible use RotateLink to do rotate requests and do not do it directly on upload). Then you cannot do it wrong. :-)
If you want just reply here. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:29, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Viquimarató Ángeles Santos Museu de l'Empordà març 2012 (10).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Un saludo --Ecemaml talk to me/habla conmigo 06:48, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
