Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

nu ma descurajez

nu ma descurajez, doar ca nu am timp zilele astea. am cateva monumente rare in galati, si sper sa aduc vreo 2 sau 3 ... macar sa castig si eu ceva. nu cred ca as putea sa ajung la finala pentru america. fac asta din placere pentru galati, ca are multe de oferit. Doua intrebari/probleme:

1. Ai cumva o image cu cladirea care o putem folosi?
2. Stiu ca e ok sa avem nume de imagini, probabil si de categorii in alte limbi pe Commons, dar mi se pare ca ar fi mai bine sa avem toate categoriile de muzee si monumente in engleza. Daca te uiti la Category:Museums in Romania by city, jumate sunt in engleza, jumate in romana. Eu as prefera engleza, in felul asta toti cei ce contribuie la commons ar gasi mai usor imaginile si categoriile. Oricum, as prefera sa fie totul intr-o singura limba. Acelasi lucru se intampla si cu Category:Muzeul Național al Hărților și Cărții Vechi. Multe institutii (dar nu toate) sunt in limba engleza si au acelasi nume cu categoriile care le corespund. Exemple Institution:National Museum of Transylvanian History, Institution:Byzantine & Christian Museum. O situatie similara de amestec romana/engleza se intampla si cu Category:Fortresses in Romania si multe alte categorii de acest gen. Tu ce zici? O sa deschid discutia si pe Village pump sa vad ce zice lumea.

Diacritice pe Commons

Salut. Stiu ca tu ai pus mult efort pe ro Wiki cu conversia diacriticelor. Pe en Wiki am vazut tot felul de conflicte si deocamdata pare nerezolvata problema. Dar care e sugestia ta pentru commons? Avem categorii de genul Category:Reșița in contrast cu Category:Night in Reşiţa. As vrea sa pun ceva la Commons:WikiProject Romania/Guidelines legat de asta. Cred ca aici ar fi o mai mare deschidere pentru o standardizare mai rapida. Mersi. --Codrin.B (talk) 21:57, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

La en.wp am susținut că o standardizare este prematură. Vezi argumentele mele aici. Cam aceleași lucruri sunt valabile și la commons, mai puțin faptul că e o non-problemă. En.wp e strict în engleză, pe când commons vrea să fie multilingv. Dar atâta timp cât oamenii scriu 50/50 cu cele 2 tipuri de diacritice, orice efort de standardizare presupune acțiuni corective la un moment dat. O sugestie este însă binevenită, iar aceasta nu poate fi decât pentru diacriticele cu virgulă, nu numai pentru că ele sunt regula, ci și pentru că ele reprezintă metoda de input aflată în creștere. Dispozitivele mobile reprezintă un challenge pentru adopția noilor diacritice, însă ele au durata de viață scurtă - o schimbare în software se propagă în câteva luni, maxim un an la marea majoritate a utilizatorilor.--Strainu (talk) 22:38, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Am citit discutiile. Dar chiar daca utilizatorii continua sa foloseasca ambele variante, nu vad de ce bot-ul si gadget-ul de pe ro Wiki n-ar putea fi portate si pe en Wiki si Commons. Editorii scriu cum vor dar bot-ul corecteaza si ofera uniformitate.--Codrin.B (talk) 15:08, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Corectează - unde? :) La ro.wp e simplu, corectează peste tot (s-au făcut eforturi să marcăm denumirile turcești, dar tot au mai scăpat unele), pe când la en.wp și la commons doar o mică parte din pagini sunt românești. Când am făcut redirectări virgulă->sedilă la en.wp, am rămas cu o listă (analizată manual) de vreo 12.000 de articole din peste 3 milioane. La commons am avut aceeași problemă - am vrut să fac redirectări și lumea s-a opus pentru că nu puteam să identific automat paginile la care trebuie lucrat.

Pai ma gandesc ca bot-ul s-ar putea uita la tot ce e sub Category:Romania recursiv si daca gaseste o subcategorie, galerie etc. de genul Category:Night in Reşiţa sa o redenumeasca, mute si/sau sa faca redirect. Probabil ca va trebui sa aibe ceva lista de exceptii cu false-positives legate de Turcia, desi cred ca sunt minime si ar putea fi reparate manual dupa. De asemenea add-on de editor care corecteaza automat la salvare ar putea fi disponibil pentru editorii interesati atat pe en.wp cat si pe commons, ca optional. Am putea sa-i facem reclama pe COM:ROMANIA si alte canale.--Codrin.B (talk) 16:44, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
