Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator (find an active one) on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright. |

[edit] WebApp for Picture of the day / POTD
Hi, & thanks a lot for your app.
I had left a few remarks back then on the village pump, in case you did not see it here is my orginal message:
-
- Very nice! :-)
- A few remarks, if I may:
- There is a small typo « Wikipedia Commons » instead of « Wikimedia Commons ».
- It would be awesome if you could display the author name too (not critical since the app links to the file description page, but always nice to have)
- Any way to have it internationalised – having it display the description in different languages?
- Thanks for your work! Jean-Fred (talk) 23:36, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
Any chance these points could be addressed ? How can I help with that? Maybe there could be some reuse of our new FeaturedFeeds set up?
Let me know ! Jean-Fred (talk) 12:55, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
- And you can, if you want, put this into the main Wikimedia Git repositories! Sumanah (talk) 06:33, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Berlin hackathon invitation
I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.
This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.
We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!
I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.
Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page at mediawiki.org.
